GEORGE TOWN, May 25 — Polling for the Bukit Gelugor by-election opened at 8am today against a backdrop of clear blue skies after a heavy downpour last night.

A total of 17 polling district centres opened with a total 139 polling stations spread throughout the federal seat to cater to a total of 82,283 registered voters.

A total 123 voters of the total 148 early voters have already cast their ballot papers on Wednesday while 68 postal voters have also sent in their ballot papers.

The counting of the early votes and postal votes will be conducted first this afternoon.

Polling results are expected as early as 9pm tonight.
