TELUK INTAN, May 24 — The DAP called on Gerakan today to speak up against the use of smear tactics against its candidate, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, in the Teluk Intan by-election, where posters of her alongside the picture of an actress in a bikini had appeared in Malay-majority villages here.
DAP’s Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari said that some posters — which did not have any party logo or emblem — were even found in a mosque at Kampung Banjar here yesterday.
“We’re not pointing fingers… so we invite Barisan Nasional (BN) to also condemn this,” Zairil told a press conference after lodging a police report against the incident at the Hilir Perak police headquarters here.
The Malay Mail Online reported earlier today the discovery of the posters at Kampung Selabak and Batak Rabik, which are Malay-majority areas within the Changkat Jong state constituency, ahead of polling day next Saturday.
DAP’s 26-year-old Dyana Sofya is facing Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong, 53, in a straight fight for the Teluk Intan federal seat in Perak.
