KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Port Dickson is set to undergo a re-branding exercise to boost its image as a tourist spot.
Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the state government plans to create a new golden triangle which will connect Putrajaya-Seremban and Port Dickson through a new development blueprint which had been approved.
“It is hoped that the transformation would be able to accommodate the congestion in the Klang Valley in the near future,” Mohamad said.
Mohamad said the Putrajaya-Seremban-Port Dickson area would be placed in the 11th Malaysia PLan (11MP), which included new infrastructure.
He said an expressway from the KL International Airport (KLIA) to Seremban which will be connected to the Lekas Highway in Senawang has been approved and will undergo construction soon.
“We will also ask for one more new highway from KLIA to Port Dickson stretching 21km and there are also talks with Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) to extend services from KLIA to Port Dickson,” he said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the 'Splash Park' water theme park on Monday.
“This is part of our plan that will be brought to the federal government to be included in the 11MP, which will include several other major developments projects.
“We are currently handing over an undertaking letter to and an international company to develop the muddy areas in Lukut including creating a man-made island.”
Meanwhile, the Negri Sembilan Tourism Department hopes the state government will not only focus on improving the attractions in Port Dickson in light of transforming the beach attraction, but the state as a whole.
Tourism and Culture state director Daing Muhamad Rahimi Abdul Hamid said the state government should do more in developing the land in Port Dickson and other areas in the state, including turning its capital, Seremban into a tourist destination.
“We would like to see the state in general grow as development is presently quite unbalanced,” Daing said.
“Seventy per cent of the state's tourist arrival comes from Port Dickson and more should be done to attract tourist to other destinations in the state.”
