GEORGE TOWN, May 19 — Four elected representatives today demanded an apology from Seberang Jaya state assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin over a land sale allegation or face legal action.
The three assemblymen, Datuk Jahara Hamid (Teluk Air Tawar), Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor (Sungai Dua) and Omar Abdul Hamid (Permatang Berangan), and Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahya claimed they had given Afif two weeks to retract his allegation and make the apology.
Afif is alleged to have accused the four elected representatives of malpractice over the sale of land belonging to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base in Butterworth.
Jahara Hamid, who is the state opposition leader, told a press conference here: “The allegation is not true and I ask him to withdraw the statement and make the apology, failing which we will take legal action.”
She said Afif had alleged that they had sold the land to their cronies during reformation assembly on April 17 at the Seberang Jaya exposition site.
Jahara said she had represented all Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen in objecting to the proposed integrated development of the RMAF site.
Bernama reported on Feb 5 that TSR Capital Bhd had obtained the approval of the federal government to discuss the proposed terms for the relocation of the RMAF base through a land switch. — Bernama
