IPOH, May 18 — The police have various taken measures to ensure that nomination and polling for Teluk Intan by-election run smoothly and peacefully.

Perak police chief Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the CID had also gathered information on individuals involved in fights during the last general election.

“In an effort to curb crime, including the involvement of secret societies, we have mobilised the special action squads to pre-empt attempts by those out to create trouble,” he told a press conference, here today.

The Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election was called following the death of Seah Leong Peng, 48, of DAP from cancer on May 1.

Nomination of candidates for Teluk Intan the by-election was set for May 19 (tomorrow) with voting on May 31. Advance voting is on May 27.

Teluk Intan by-election operations centre was opened at Hilir Perak District Police Headquarters and monitored by Perak Police Contingent operations room.

Acryl Sani said mobile police station and police booths would be located in several areas adding the police were well prepared for the by-election.

He reminded the candidates to follow the procedures and the law when campaigning, especially in terms of the rally permit and the time given.

Members of the public were advised not to easily believe unconfirmed information and focus on information received from reliable sources.

On nomination, Acryl Sani advised the candidates and party supporters to comply with directives given by the police and Election Commission officers.

“Candidates and party supporters are reminded not to provoke, not to use loudspeakers and play musical instruments, not to play with fireworks and not to be in undesignated areas.

“Motorists should only park their vehicles in designated areas and warned not to carry weapons.”

He advised members of the public to avoid Jalan Changkat Jong as the candidates and party supporters would gather along the road. — Bernama
