KOTA KINABALU, May 15 ―  A former Immigration senior officer pleaded not guilty in the Corruption Court today to six counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM12,371 two years ago.

Ag Ku Mohd Shaifull Ampuan Ag Damit, 42, former deputy assistant director at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport Immigration, is alleged to have accepted a RM2,000 bribe at a Sabah Immigration Department office here on September 11, 2012, from one Kent Ng Thien Ming as an incentive not to take action against the latter for having hired foreign workers without valid work permits at City Kopitiam here.

He is also alleged to have accepted RM10,000 from Ng at the same place on October 16, 2012, for the same reason.

Ag Ku Mohd Shaifull is also alleged to have agreed to accept a bribe in the form of an aquarium worth RM371 from Ng at the same place, also on October 16, 2012.

The three charges under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 carry a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Ag Ku Mohd Shaifull was also charged on three counts under Section 165 of the Penal Code. The charges carry a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Judge Ishak Bakri set bail at RM8,000 in one surety and fixed June 16 for case management.

MACC deputy public prosecutor Joyce Blasius appeared for the prosecution while Ag Ku Mohd Shaifull was represented by counsel Ram Singh. ― Bernama
