GEORGE TOWN, May 8 — DAP demanded today that rival party MCA withdraw from Barisan Nasional (BN) if Umno votes in favour of hudud bill.

Umno dominates the BN coalition that also includes MCA.

DAP’s Lim Guan Eng wants MCA to make a clear stand that this means it will withdraw from BN entirely.

“Unless MCA makes a clear and definite clarification that a review of MCA’s position in BN is a withdrawal from BN, this is another meaningless political sandiwara,” the DAP secretary-general said in a statement today.

MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong reportedly said MCA and other non-Muslims parties with BN might “review their position in the BN coalition” if Umno votes in favour of the hudud bill which is expected to be tabled by Kelantan.

“This is confusing, if a review is not withdrawal, what does he mean by “review”?” Lim asked.

The Penang lawmaker noted that MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had chosen to blame DAP and PAS instead of criticising Umno for working with PAS to implement hudud in Kelantan.
