KUALA KRAI, March 2 — The bodies of two teenage girls who were feared drowned after falling into the river at Sungai Lebir, Kampung Manek Urai here yesterday have been found.

Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue chief, Assistant Superintendent Azman Abu Hassan said the body of Nurul Akmal Roshid, 15, was located at 8.28 am about 20 metres from the scene of incident while that of Nursyafiqah Syaura Mohd Yusof, 13, at 8.40 am about 50 metres away, by the Kota Baharu Fire and Rescue station's scuba unit.

“Their remains were sent to Kuala Krai Hospital for post mortem before being handed over to their families for burial,” he told reporters when met at the location today.

Meanwhile, Nurul Akmal's mother, Marizan Ismail, 37, said she never thought her daughter's request to be allowed to go to the river with a friend around 6 pm yesterday would end in tragedy.

“About half an hour later, villagers came to the house to tell us that she had fallen into the river,” she recalled.

According to her, Nurul Akmal seemed to lose her temper easily in the days leading to her death.

“I noticed it because it was uncharacteristic of her. But I accept her passing as the Will of Allah,” she said. — Bernama
