SUBANG JAYA, Feb 11 — Residents caught a robber an hour after he and two accomplices robbed a woman at knifepoint in Bukit Puchong on Friday morning.

The suspect and his accomplices — all from India — blindfolded a 37-year-old Sabahan woman from behind while she was walking to her house in USJ 1, Subang Permai, at 10am.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Yahya Ramli said that based on the woman’s statement, one of the suspects covered her eyes from behind with a cloth.

“She told us she felt someone holding a sharp object and pressing it to her back,” he said.

“She sensed there were two others, who managed to grab her handbag containing cash and two mobile phones.”

The suspects also took her gold ring.

Several residents who saw the incident trailed the suspects.

“The residents chose not to confront the robbers immediately as there were three of them,” said Yahya.

About an hour later the robbers split up.

“The residents caught one of them. The suspect suffered bruises all over his body following a scuffle that took place,” Yahya said.

“He was overpowered and handed over to the police.”

Yahya said the suspect, aged 19, had entered the country six months ago.

“He had no travel documents on him and claimed to be working in Masjid India,” he said.

“We have some positive leads on the other suspects and are confident we will arrest them soon.”
