PETALING JAYA, FEB 11 — The family members of 13-year-old T. Kavinraj, who took his life by drinking pesticide after he was allegedly bullied in school, are hoping the school authorities will shed some light over the matter.

Kavinraj’s uncle, D. Saambha Shevam, 49, who was met at SMK Rinching, said a meeting was held between him and the school authorities earlier yesterday.

“We were informed that Kavinraj (picture, bottom left) was advised by a teacher to stay away from the bullies after he lodged a report two weeks ago. However, my nephew continued to be bullied despite staying away,” he said.

Saambha said Kavinraj had informed him that he was bullied but Saambha did not want to interfere as he felt the matter would be resolved by the teachers.

“If I had known it was this serious, I would have done something earlier,” he said.

Saambha said the school authorities have been cooperative and understanding of the situation.

“We are saddened by the incident but we are glad the school is taking the matter seriously,” he said.

“I just want to make sure similar incidents will not happen to other students.”

A spokesman from the school said the matter is being investigated and appropriate action will be taken.

“We have not identified the students involved, but we are looking into the matter,” the spokesman said.

“Kavinraj did not tell us the name of his bullies, so we cannot take any action until we know who they are.”

Kavinraj consumed weed killer at his home in Bandar Rinching on Friday, a day after he was again bullied by his peers.
