KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 — Sixty-six projects or 1.8 per cent of the 3,765 development projects allocated under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP) in Penang could not be carried out last year as the state government had not decided on them.

According to the Auditor-General’s Report 2012, among the affected projects were the new building for the Southwest District Agriculture Office and the project to replace an old bridge in Kampung Nelayan, Teluk Bahang.

The other affected projects included the construction of a students’ hostel in Cairo, Egypt, and the construction of the State Legislative Assembly building and new administration office in Bayan Mutiara.

However, according to the report, 3,673 projects or 97.5 per cent of the projects under the 10MP were completed while 26 projects or 0.7 per cent were still being implemented.

The state expenditure was found to be unsatisfactory as only RM181.53 million was spent out of the RM332.93 million allocated for projects planned under the 10MP.

According to the report, the audit analysis showed the Chief Minister’s office and the State Secretary’s office had spent only 40.4 per cent or RM95.05 million from the RM235.47 million allocation approved. — Bernama
