GEORGE TOWN, Sept 14 — Penang police detained 18 individuals including seven foreign women for various offences during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Cantas Khas’ carried out at five entertainment centres throughout the state early today.
Fourteen police teams were involved in the seven-hour operation which ended at 3 a.m. in Seberang Perai, Queensbay, Persiaran Gurney and the city centre.
State CID chief, SAC Mazlan Kesah said four of the male suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were suspected to be members of the 04 gang based on the tattoo on their body.
“Eight men were detained for investigation under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 while seven Vietnamese women working as guest relations officers were detained for immigration offences,” he told reporters when met at the location.
He said several packets of various types of drugs were also found scattered on the floor, believed to have been deliberately thrown by patrons of the entertainment centre upon realising the presence of the police. — Bernama
