PETALING JAYA, Aug 10 — Former Gelang Patah MP Tan Ah Eng died this morning after battling brain cancer for over a year.

Her assistant Goh Teck Kuan said Tan breathed her last at around 11am today upon arrival at the Kota Tinggu district hospital in Johor where she was sent after suffering breathing difficulties at her home earlier, the New Straits Times reported.

Tan, who was the national deputy Wanita MCA chief and Johor Wanita MCA chief, made way for former state Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman in the contest for Gelang Patah during the just-concluded May 5 general election.

Despite being bedridden during the election, the former MP helped to canvas for votes for Abdul Ghani during campaigning by recording a video message urging voters to back her replacement.

But Abdul Ghani lost in his bid to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

According to the NST, Tan leaves her husband, Pan Chee Mian, 60, and two children, aged 33 and 28.
