GEORGE TOWN, Aug 5 — Penang is calling for a request for proposal (RFP) for an international theme park and golf resort development at Bandar Cassia in Batu Kawan.

The RFP is for the purchase and lease of a total 685 acres of land, 215 acres for the theme park and 470 acres for the golf resort.

Penang Development Corporation (PDC) general manager Datuk Rosli Jaafar said there are two components to each parcel of land.

“Of the 215 acres for the theme park, 65 acres should be used for residential, commercial or other development related to the park while 150 acres must be developed into a theme park,” he said in a press conference today.

The golf resort must comprise an international-standard golf course with a minimum of 18 holes with the balance of the land used for residential, commercial or other related developments.

The project site is very near to the second Penang Bridge project.

The project is expected to further boost the state’s tourism industry and also create more jobs.

The land tenure for the tender is 30 years for both the theme park and golf resort with an option for the tenderer to renew it for another 30 years.

“The theme park and golf course must be completed within four years from the date of the agreement and the whole development must be fully completed in 10 years time,” Rosli said.

The call for RFP opens on August 14 and closes on October 31.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the theme park and golf course will provide more jobs on the mainland to spur further development there.

“It will add value to the developments in Seberang Perai,” he said.
