PETALING JAYA, Aug 5 — Police last week raided the home of the man suspected of gunning down Arab Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi.
City CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the gunman, nicknamed Sei Ngan Chai, is a 44-year-old part-time car repossessor, according to a report in The Star Online today.
“We have raided the suspect’s house and obtained his personal identification and other documents that will be vital in apprehending him,” he said, adding that the suspect’s wife was in the house in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, when they raided the premises.
“We believe that the man is still in the country. We will bring more updates in a press conference on Tuesday at 11.30am,” he said.
On the taxi driver who allegedly ferried the gunman, Ku said the man led police to an apartment in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur where they found a Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, which he believes belongs to the suspect.
The cab driver allegedly told police that someone had asked him to hide the firearm.
According to a Bernama report today, Ku said the police were investigating the taxi driver’s link with Sei Ngan Chai or Ah Chian.
“The suspect has no criminal records. The police stormed his home last week, but he had disappeared,” said Ku.
He urged those with information on the suspect to contact the nearest police station.
The Bernama report also said police will submit an application to extend the remand order on a taxi driver.
Ku said the taxi driver, whose seven-day remand expires tomorrow, was still needed to help the police in the investigations into the murder.
“We believe the 44-year-old taxi driver can help the police track down the suspect, thus solve the murder,” he told reporters at Bukit Aman.
Najadi, 75, was shot dead while his wife, Cheong Mei Kuen, 49, was seriously injured when they were attacked by a gunman as they left the Kuan Yin Temple in Lorong Ceylon here at about 2pm last Monday.
