KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 — Nor Idayu Supian will forever be grateful to YouTuber comedian Syahmi Sazli and wife Anissa Faizul for helping her get water supply restored to her home in Banggol Stol, Pasir Mas, Kelantan.
Five days ago, the 31-year-old mother of three posted her water woes on a Pasir Mas Facebook group, lamenting that she and her family had been without water for the past six months despite complaints to the water department.
Nor Idayu, who sells baked goods from home, was forced to buy tubs and bottles of water for her business and family’s daily use.
In response, Syahmi Sazli’s wife Anissa sympathised with her predicament and said: “The local government can’t even provide a basic necessity like water supply despite being in power for 30 years.”
Anissa’s viral post resulted in public backlash, with some threatening to boycott her and husband.
“I was so upset because they misunderstood the situation,” said Nor Idayu in an interview with Malay Mail. “They didn’t even know the real story and quickly turned it into a political issue.”
Nor Idayu, husband Helmey Mohd Nor and their three children live in Banggol Stol, one of the many villages in Pasir Mas, Kelantan’s second biggest town.
“Many people around my area were quick to point out they had water supply but they get water from wells, I only get tap water,” she said.
“The truth is, only Anissa and Syahmi cared enough to share and highlight my problem.”

Thankfully, Anissa’s viral post also had an upside with Kelantan exco member Datuk Mohd Nassurudin Daud paying a visit to Nor Idayu’s house to check on the faulty water pipes.
“At first, they (Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd) sent a water tanker to fill up my house tank, then a day later, they changed the pipes so water can flow easily into our tank.”
A delighted Nor Idayu shared the good news with Anissa and Syahmi Sazli, who promptly sent over a water filter so she and her family could have clean filtered water.
“I was moved by their generosity, it was so kind of them, I didn’t even ask for it,” said Nor Idayu. “Without a water filter, the water we get is murky.”
Now with the water supply restored, her baking business is up and running again and her family no longer have to rely on tubs of water just to have a shower.
“I sell all kinds of cakes and cupcakes but my bestsellers are butter and marble cakes,” she said, adding that those keen on her baked good could look her up at Nur Idayu Supian on Facebook or contact 014 501 4878.
