LOS ANGELES, June 28 — US-European automaker Stellantis, whose brands include Jeep, Dodge and Fiat, unveiled on Tuesday a new service to provide electric car drivers charging units in their homes, businesses and public stations.

Stellantis, which also makes Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Maserati, RAM and Peugeot vehicles, said its Free2move Charge unit aims to remove “charge anxiety” for electric car owners.

From getting a home charger installed to encountering different charging networks while on the road, electric car owners confront a range of challenges.

Free2move Charge will offer drivers access to a number of charging networks as well as the financing and installation of home chargers.

For example, it hopes that it will able to offer drivers access to nearly all of Europe’s 500,000 public chargers, similar to rival Volkswagen’s We Charge.

Free2move Charge will also provide solutions for businesses to handle the charging of their electric vehicles.

“As the pace of mainstream EV adoption accelerates, our customers need us to be more than just a mobility provider,” Stellantis’ head of charging and energy unit, Ricardo Stamatti, said in a statement.

While launching now in the United States, Free2move Charge should be available in 11 European countries by the end of this year.

Stellantis aims to completely shift to selling battery electric passenger vehicles in Europe by the end of this decade, and for them to account for half of its passenger and light-duty truck sales in the United States. — ETX Studio
