GEORGE TOWN, March 1 — Antique lanterns, bells and even an anchor hang from the exposed wooden beams across the ceiling while different clocks of various sizes and shapes line a peeling red brick wall.

Outside, four wonky metal words are strung together to spell the word “Junk” which is the name of the cafe... but if not for the stove placed next to the door, the place looks more like an antique store than a cafe.

Ong Shen Yung and Jason Lim run the cafe which specialises in gourmet burgers in this eclectically decorated space curated by local antique collector, Ono.

Ong, formerly of homegrown Marshalls Burger fame, has created more burger recipes to satisfy eaters who crave homemade beef patties served with specialty sauces.

The cafe currently offers three different burger variants — Tatziki Burger, Full of Junk Burger and Blood Cream Burger — plus a chicken sandwich and the ultimate indulgence for seafood lovers, Crab Rolls.

The Tatziki Burger is a slab of premium minced beef slathered with a generous amount of fresh tatziki sauce made from authentic Greek yogurt with fresh cucumbers, mint and a dash of smoked paprika.

The whole thing is then topped with charred bell peppers marinated in herb-infused olive oil.

The Full of Junk Burger, on the other hand, is a beef patty which is first layered with caramelised onions with just the slightest hint of balsamic vinegar before it is topped with four different types of mushrooms with herbs and strong Cheddar cheese.

Those who want something creamier, can go for the Blood Cream Burger which is made with beef patties enhanced with sun dried cherry tomatoes and topped with a creamy Italian Parmesan sauce.

If beef is too heavy, they also have the Blood Cream Chicken Sandwich made with tender deboned chicken breast meat served on focaccia buns using the same sauces and sun dried cherry tomatoes similar to the Blood Cream Burger.

From Friday to Sunday, the cafe offers Crab Rolls made with fresh peeled crabmeat served in bread rolls.

All dishes are served with hand-cut fries and the burgers are made with sesame seed buns.
