KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — Rock musician Awie will marry for the third time, reportedly this weekend, to a woman who is at least 19 years his junior.
Malay daily Utusan Malaysia reported that the 48-year-old Awie, whose real name is Ahmad Azhar Othman, will marry Sharifah Ladyana, who is in her 20s, but he reportedly declined to reveal the actual date of the wedding for his personal safety.
“I will marry this month, when and where I cannot say for the sake of me and my future wife’s safety,” Awie was quoted as saying during a press conference yesterday.
The Wings lead vocalist will reportedly wed in a morning beach ceremony, which will be followed by a night reception at the same location later that same day.
Awie reportedly said that he had decided to share the news of his impending nuptials only with his inner circle due to a “mystical” ailment that is afflicting both him and his fiancée.
“I’ve already received some treatment from the doctor, but the illness affecting my leg still hasn’t gotten better. Right now, I’m also using Islamic medical treatment. My future wife is also having the same problems.
“That’s the main reason why I can’t reveal the date and location of my wedding. Because if possible, I don’t want this issue to be a problem. But, what I can share is that the wedding will take place at a beach,” said the musician and actor.
Awie’s first wife was singer Arni Nazira, whom he married in 1998. They were divorced in 2006.
His second wife was Rozana Misbun. Their acrimonious breakup hit the headlines last year when he was slapped last May with a RM2,000 fine for hurting her. They got married in 2005 and divorced in 2014.
