KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 — Tribe, Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad’s regional video streaming service today announced their partnership with Indonesia’s largest mobile provider Telkomsel.

The collaboration will see Tribe’s original content be readily available for the millions of the Indonesian telco’s mobile data users, the company said today in a statement.

“Under the partnership, Tribe’s content will be available on Telkomsel’s VideoMax package, bundled with free streaming allowing more Indonesians to watch content wherever and whenever they want,” said Iskandar Samar, Tribe CEO.

“We are addressing the “fear of missing out” where super-fans can watch the latest Asean content on Tribe,” Iskandar added.

He said Tribe launched their first Indonesian-Malay original series, Gantung, in January 2018 and would continue to utilise its own presence in the region to develop, distribute and monetise original intellectual properties, focusing on Asean content.

“This will help us differentiate against competitors and drive pay behaviour, which is less developed in these (Asean) markets,” the statement read.

Iskandar added that Asean original series had helped them to increase the monthly average time spent on Tribe by its users by 14 percent, to 139 minutes in 2018 as compared to 2017.

Telkomsel Digital Lifestyle vice president Crispin Tristram through the statement said the company welcomed Tribe’s cooperation as it was part of their commitment to deliver the best digital entertainment to its customers.

He was quoted in the statement saying the “VIP” Tribe service would now be accessible for all Telkomsel subscribers that have a monthly data package, and with no additional cost.

Tribe, which was founded in March 2016, available in Indonesia, Philippines, Southern Thailand, and Singapore, have reported a 312 per cent growth to 3.1million installs to date.

This represents a 78 per cent year on year growth, with up to 500,000 monthly active users logging in.
