KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 ― Shares on Bursa Malaysia were in the red at mid-morning today on emerging selling activity in most heavyweights, dealers said.

At 11am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) edged down 2.57 points to 1,627.30, from yesterday's close of 1,629.87.

It opened 1.10 points weaker at 1,628.77.

The FBM Emas Index fell 16.13 points to 11,384.94, the FBMT100 Index slid 16.81 points to 11,079.95 and the FBM 70 slipped 16.99 points to 12,871.35.

The FBM Emas Shariah Index dipped 13.23 points to 11,902.97 and the FBM Ace lost 13.86 points to 5,508.52.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index contracted 30.46 points to 14,176.77, the Industrial Index decreased 10.25 points to 3,077.33, while the Plantation Index was 9.47 points lower at 7,441.50.     

Losers led gainers 324 to 241, while 303 counters were unchanged, 874 untraded and 55 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 548.77 million shares worth RM454.47 million.              

Among heavyweights, Maybank declined three sen to RM8.20, IHH Healthcare was flat at RM6.52, while TNB rose two sen to RM14.02 and Public Bank gained six sen to RM19.18.

Of the actives, AirAsia X slipped one sen to 37.5 sen, O&C Resources shed 1.5 sen to 67.5 sen, while Land & General improved 5.5 sen to 39.5 sen and APFT earned half-a-sen to 5.5 sen. ― Bernama
