KUALA LUMPUR, May 5 — Losses in most of the heavyweight stocks dragged down share prices on Bursa Malaysia today, with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) losing 8.54 points.
The benchmark index ended trading at an intra-day low of 1,860.54 points after reaching as high as 1,869.38 points throughout the day.
A dealer said Bursa Malaysia’s weaker performance was in line with most Southeast Asian markets.
He said most Asian stocks fell today as investors weighed corporate earnings amid concerns Russia will be subject to new sanctions as tensions over Ukraine intensify.
Market breadth was negative as losers led gainers 691 to 170 while 275 counters were unchanged, 480 untraded and 13 others suspended.
Turnover was higher at 1.54 billion shares worth RM1.39 billion, from 1.15 billion shares worth RM1.51 billion recorded on Friday.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index shed 10.72 points to 3,180.14, the Finance Index dipped 132.86 points to 16,939.36 and the Plantation Index fell 25.88 points to 9,036.77.
The FBM Emas Index was 70.38 points lower at 12,862.72, the Ace Index declined 148.16 points to 6,410.69, the FBMT100 Index went down 63.28 points to 12,519.85 and the FBM 70 erased 93.67 points to 14,003.79.
Among actives, 1Utopia and Talam Transform eased half-a-sen each to six sen and nine sen respectively, Astral Supreme slipped three sen to 11.5 sen while Daya Material was flat at 34.5 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank and CIMB erased 7.0 sen each to RM9.81 and RM7.35 respectively, Public Bank lost 14 sen to RM19.80 but TNB was flat at RM11.90.
Main Market volume was higher at 1.12 billion units worth RM1.31 billion, from Friday’s 892.37 million units worth RM1.45 billion.
Turnover on the ACE market advanced to 382.45 million shares valued at RM73.99 million, from 233.15 million shares valued at RM615.64 million recorded on Friday.
Warrants widened to 25.29 million units worth RM2.55 million, from Friday’s 24.11 million units worth RM2.93 million.
Consumer products accounted for 129.3 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 242.42 million, construction 60.16 million, trade and services 377.49 million, technology 39.73 million, infrastructure 9.82 million, SPAC 24.08 million, finance 29.41 million, hotels 877,700, properties 187.99 million, plantations 16.57 million, mining 173,400, REITs 4.27 million and closed/fund 39,800. — Bernama
