FRANKFURT, April 18 — Malaysia was ASEAN’s leading exporting nation to Germany last year. German imports from Malaysia surged by 4.2 per cent, even as that from Singapore and Indonesia declined, data released by the Hamburg-based German Asia-Pacific Business Council (OAV) showed.

According to the data, based on statistics compiled by the Federal German Statistics Bureau, Malaysia’s exports to Germany amounted to €5.6 billion (RM25.1 billion), up 4.2 per cent from the €5.4 billion in 2012.

On the other hand, Malaysia’s imports from Germany declined to €4.8 billion, down 3.0 per cent from €4.9 billion.

Total ASEAN exports to Germany amounted to €27.1 billion, up 1.4 per cent from €26.8 billion. Combined ASEAN imports from Germany stood at €22.1 billion, down 3.0 per cent from €22.7 billion. Germany’s biggest two trading partners in Asia were China and Japan. — Bernama
