KUALA LUMPUR, March 22 — The Muslim holy month of Ramadan will commence in Malaysia tomorrow, according to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal.

Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad said the Yang diPertuan Agong gave his consent for the date following consultation with the other Malay Rulers.

“In order to carry out the decree of His Majesty the Yang diPertuan Agong, with the agreement of Their Highnesses, I hereby declare that the start of fasting for all states in Malaysia to be Thursday March 23,” he said.

The announcement was made following the ritual sighting of the moon conducted earlier today.

Ramadan is when Muslims worldwide observe a daily fast from sunrise to sunset for a month.
