LUNDU, Feb 16 — A two-year-old boy reported missing in an oil palm plantation here yesterday afternoon was rescued today with the help of a sniffer dog named Daisy from the Fire and Rescue Department.

A spokesperson from the department said the dog sniffed the trail of Muhammad Rayyan Bujang Abdul Qayyum and found him at 1pm at a spot about 2,000 metres from where he was last seen.

“The toddler, apart from having minor scratches in his legs, is unhurt and has been handed over to his family members for further action,” the spokesman said in a statement.

He said the Lundu Bomba station received a call at about 2pm yesterday from the Lundu police to assist in locating the boy who was reported missing by his mother.

He said the mother, with the toddler in tow, was waiting at a hut of Batu Perigi quarry for her husband to return from his workplace in Sematan.

“While she was waiting for her husband to arrive, the toddler was playing outside the hut located behind the workers’ quarters,” the spokesman said.

He said she frantically searched and shouted for her son after realising that he was missing

The spokesman said she and her husband, with the help of the workers, searched for the boy, but to no avail.

A search and rescue operation, consisting of the Bomba and police personnel, and some villagers, was initiated to comb the oil palm plantation, within a radius of 3,000 metres in the oil palm plantation area, for the missing toddler.

The SAR operation resumed this morning.
