KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 4 — Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz said tonight he remains optimistic about his prospects despite a high chance of facing a heated five-cornered fight here.
Ahead of nomination day tomorrow, the caretaker finance minister chided Pakatan Harapan for being too complacent after administering Selangor for nearly 14 years
“Has PH done anything new here? What have they done for the residents of Kuala Selangor?
“They had become too comfortable here and forgotten their basic jobs,” said Tengku Zafrul after launching the district Umno’s Wanita election machinery here.
The event has gathered around 750 supporters wearing BN’s blue shirts, with the majority being Malay locals from here.
Tengku Zafrul then pledged that his main vision for the constituency would be strengthening the relationships between the voters and the elected politicians, upgrading the local infrastructure, and providing more job opportunities.
“We want to win not because we are crazy about having power, but we need to mandate to improve the infrastructure,” said Tengku Zafrul while the crowd cheered in agreement.
He then added that he remains optimistic about his prospects despite facing the incumbent MP Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad, who was a former health minister during PH’s administration.
“We have to be ready and expect anything from a five or six-cornered fight, but I’m very happy to see the passion, the commitment, and the spirit of the team here.
“We are fortunate to have such strong support from BN Wanita,” said Tengku Zafrul when approached by Malay Mail.
Kuala Selangor is a township located an hour away from the capital city, Kuala Lumpur, and is famed for its seafood and ecotourism.
Currently, those who have thrown their hats here include PH’s Dzulkefly, BN’s Tengku Zafrul, Perikatan Nasional’s Mohd Noor Mohd Sahar, Pejuang Tanah Air’s Mohd Shaid Rosli, and PRM’s Loganathan Raveenthran.
Nomination day is tomorrow and Malaysia goes to the polls on November 19.
