KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — Another 91 people died from Covid-19 nationwide today, raising the cumulative fatality count to 5,768 since the pandemic spread in Malaysia last year.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced 948 which topped yesterday’s 943 record high of Covid-19 patients that have been warded in the intensive care units (ICU).

He said 441 of those in ICU need ventilators.

Of today’s deaths, 54 were those above 60 years old, an age bracket deemed to be high risk. Seven were aged 40 and below, including two 25-year-olds who died at Serdang Hospital in Selangor and Sultanah Fatimah Hospital in Johor, respectively.

Ten were brought in dead.

All but 12 of the deceased were Malaysians.

Only 15 did not have pre-existing health problems.

“A total of 91 death cases today involving 47 cases in Selangor, 16 cases in Negri Sembilan, 10 cases each in Kuala Lumpur, four cases each in Johor and Melaka, three cases in Sarawak, two cases in Perak, as well as one case each in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Labuan, and Kedah,” Dr Noor Hisham said in a statement.
