KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Self-proclaimed “Raja Bomoh” Datuk Ibrahim Mat Zain was spotted in front of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s home in Taman Duta here this afternoon.
The controversial figure, who once called himself a shaman, appeared in a suit and red tie, with a songkok on his head and a wooden cane in one hand.
He arrived at 5.30pm in a black Jaguar luxury sedan with the number plate VBE 2364, that also had another plate stating “Raja Bomoh VVIP”.
Checks by Malay Mail showed the car was a 2008 Jaguar XF premium registered to a 46-year-old woman who resides in Salak Tinggi, Sepang.
The 68-year-old, who is also a member of Pertubuhan Seni Silat Gayung Ghaib Malaysia, told reporters that he came to Taman Duta to personally see the situation at Najib’s private residence.
“He was our former prime minister who has made contributions to the country,” he said.
Ibrahim did not perform any headline-making rituals that he has come to be known for and left after about five minutes without meeting Najib.
The ex-prime minister had returned home minutes earlier at 5.23pm from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya where his statement was recorded over SRC International, a subsidiary of the controversial 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) fund.
Ibrahim first made headlines in 2014 when he conducted two rituals using coconuts and bamboo binoculars at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in an attempt to locate the still missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
In February 2015, he appeared at Sungai Buloh Prison to exorcise the evil spirit that allegedly haunted Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The self-styled shaman also turned up last year amid tensions with North Korea over the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, to perform a ritual outside the National Institute of Forensic Medicine at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, claiming to protect Malaysia from a potential missile attack.
Ibrahim had expressed an interest to contest in the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat, which is also his hometown, in the 14th general election, but was nowhere to be seen on April 28, Nomination Day.
