SIMUNJAN, April 28 — Batang Sadong incumbent MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri faces two challengers from PAS and its splinter Parti Amanah Negara to keep her Sarawak parliamentary seat this GE14.

The PAS contender is Asan Singkro while the Amanah candidate is Othman Mustapha, who is using PKR’s “blue eye” logo on May 9.

The three candidates were accompanied by hundreds of their respective flag-carrying supporters when they arrived at the Dewan Mesra Simunjan here to file their nomination papers this morning.

Nancy, from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition’s anchor party in Sarawak, first won Batang Sadong in Election 2008, beating Piee Ling of PKR by 5,425 votes.

In GE13, she defeated Mohammed Jolhi, also of PKR, by 11,260 votes.

Batang Sadong has 23,213 registered voters, consisting of 16,274 Malays, 5,647 Dayaks, 1,187 Chinese and there are 105 others.

Sarawak Amanah chief Fidzuan Zaidi later told reporters that the party’s candidates are also contesting in Batang Lupar, Tanjong Manis, Santubong, Igan and Kota Samarahan and all are using the PKR symbol.

Fidzuan is facing the caretaker Sarawak Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar in Santubong in a straight fight.

In Batang Lupar, Amanah’s Sopian Julaihi is in a three-way fight involving caretaker state Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Rohani Karim from BN and Zulkipli Ramzi of PAS.

In Igan, Amanah information chief Andre Zulkarnaen Hamdan is facing BNl’s Ahmad Johnie Zawawi in straight fight while Amanah’s Mohamad Fadillah Sabali is in straight fight against BN’s Yusuf Abdul Wahab in Tanjong Manis.
