PETALING JAYA, Feb 23 ― The Prime Minister’s Office has chided those who had allegedly twisted Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s statement on health and dietary routine yesterday.

The office said the prime minister consumes quinoa, seen as a costly grain, as part of his healthy diet regime.

“The prime minister stated he eats quinoa grains, this is part of the healthy diet regime he practices,” it said in a statement.

“It is also based on the advice of doctor. Besides that, he also exercises routinely to keep his health and fitness.”

Najib had been criticised by some in the public after revealing that he had switched from eating locally-grown rice to quinoa, a health food grown in South America that is popular in first-world countries.

In the same session, he had suggested Malaysians who complained about rising cost of living to be careful about where they choose to eat, and should avoid going to fancy Japanese restaurants that could cost up to RM800 per meal.
