KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Fashionistas on the lookout for unique pieces this coming Raya might want to check out the latest designs from Khoon Hooi.

Paying homage to the kebaya pieces found in his grandmother’s closet, Khoon Hooi has dreamed up an 18-piece collection that celebrates the traditional with a modern flourish.

The local fashion icon has giving the humble kebaya a stylish silhouette by incorporating elements of the traditional baju kurung and kaftan coupled with detailing such as draping, scalloped edges and floral embroidery.

Well-known in the local design industry, Khoon Hooi has spent 15 years specialising in bespoke tailoring for the who’s-who in Malaysia and his label, currently stocked in exclusive boutiques around the world, has been featured at Paris Fashion Week for the past 12 seasons.

Featuring a mix of materials such as fil coupé, satin, silk taffeta and jacquard, stylish standout pieces from the collection include the classic short kebaya and candy-stripe sarong as well asa lace “kebarung” paired with a tangerine inner piece.

The luxurious made-to-order collection also makes a play of quirky clashes, think feminine floral paired with polka dots and checkered patterns.

The Raya 2018 Collection is available at the Khoon Hooi showroom at APW Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur. For more details, call 03-2788 2667 or email [email protected].
