LONDON, Feb 2 — The Lister Motor Company has just announced that it will be launching what will be its fastest, most powerful and most luxurious supercar ever at the upcoming Historic Motorsport International, which takes place at London's ExCeL February 15-18. The car in question is called the Lister Thunder, which is the bespoke manufacturer's take on the Jaguar F-Type.
This new model from Lister is being billed as a 'logical successor' to the Lister Le Mans of the early 1990s, essentially because it's another Lister supercar that's being based nearly completely on a Jaguar. The Le Mans was based on the old XJS Coupe, but the new Thunder is quite obviously based on the F-Type, but with a number of bespoke design tweaks and some impressive performance gains.
It's quite something for it to be the most powerful car Lister has built to date, and they probably won't be available for long as the manufacturer is only going to produce a limited run of just 99 units of the Thunder, which will come with prices starting from £139,950 (RM773,458).
Lister has always had a long association with Jaguar, dating back to the Lister-Jaguar sports car, which was an aluminum-bodied racing car powered by a Le Mans-winning Jaguar D-type 3.4-liter, straight-six engine that enjoyed notable track successes in the late 1950s.
Although the Lister Thunder will still have Jaguar's 5.0-litre supercharged V-8 engine under the hood, in this case it will be boosted to deliver as much as 666 bhp. That will then translate to a top speed of more than 200 mph and will get the Thunder to 100 kph in just over three seconds.
Lawrence Whittaker, the Lister Motor Company's CEO, commented on the choice of launching the car at the Historic Motorsport International, an event dedicated to classic motor sport, "We came to HMI last year and... we sold a car for more than a quarter of a million pounds while on the stand! That is why we have chosen this year's follow-up event to launch the Lister Thunder, which will mark the first car from our revised Jaguar tuning programme." — AFP-Relaxnews
