NEW YORK, May 16 — Motorola has revealed two new C-series entry-level handsets, confirming, in part, information published by American blogger, Evan Blass, who shared a photo on his Twitter account revealing the future of the brand’s smartphone offer. This suggests a mobile phone range grouped into five distinct families.

Motorola’s new Moto C and C Plus handsets are 5-inch 4G smartphones running Android 7.0 (Nougat) and promising budget price tags but competitive performances and battery lives. Both handsets are dual-SIM models and both have microSD memory card slots for boosting storage.

In terms of specs, the Moto C gets a 1.1 GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and 1GB of RAM, plus 16GB of memory and a pair of basic cameras (5 MP and 2 MP). The Moto C Plus has a HD display, 2GB of RAM and an 8-MP main camera. Motorola also announces up to 30 hours of battery life for the Moto C Plus.

The Moto C and Moto C Plus are due out in spring 2017.

The C series takes over as the brand’s new entry-level offering. According to leaks on social networks, a host of other models should follow over the course of the year, including the Moto E and E Plus and the GS and GS Plus. Two models are also expected at the high end of the range, the Z Play (with a 5.5-inch Full HD display) and the Z Force (with an “unbreakable” ShatterShield display).

For Lenovo, which has owned the Motorola mobile division since 2014, the aim is to harmonize its offer. After toying with the idea of grouping models under two different names in 2016 to signify entry-level or premium positioning, Lenovo appears to have decided to keep the Moto “brand” and to use a series of letters (C, E, G, X and Z) to identify product series and quality levels. — AFP-Relaxnews
