KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — James Corden apologised on the latest episode of The Late Late Show for his recent behaviour at the Balthazar restaurant in New York.

At the start of the show which aired on Monday (October 24), Corden explained that the restaurant staff had served a dish which would have caused his wife, producer Julia Carey, to have an allergic reaction.

“In the heat of the moment, I made a sarcastic rude comment about cooking it myself,” the talk show host said in his monologue.

“It is a comment I deeply regret...It was ungracious to the server.”

Corden claimed to understand the difficulties of working restaurant shifts, having worked as a server himself in the past.

On October 16, Balthazar owner Keith McNally made an Instagram post claiming that one of the servers had been verbally abused by Corden for getting the order wrong.

Corden was banned from the restaurant before McNally posted another Instagram post on October 18. McNally decided to lift Corden’s ban as he claimed Corden had reached out and ‘apologised profusely’.

“I was happy that we got to clear the air and I felt like we dealt with it privately. But by this point, the story was out there. People were upset,” Corden added.

“Whenever these sorts of moments come my way, I like to adopt quite a British attitude. Never complain, never explain. It’s very much my motto.”

“But as my dad pointed out to me on Saturday, he said, ‘Son, you did complain. So you might need to explain.’ Look, when you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility.”

The comedian praised the restaurant staff and management throughout his monologue and concluded by hoping to offer an apology in person during his next New York visit.
