KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 24 — At 9.30am today, there were 75 gainers, 319 losers and 186 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia.
The FBM-KLCI was at 1,631.10 down 8.88 points, the FBMACE was at 5,181.22 down 22.71 points, and the FBMEmas was at 11,399.43 down 5.76 points.
Turnover was at 240.685 million shares valued at RM129.080 million.
Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened lower today in line with some regional markets with underlying sentiments affected as early votes counted in the EU Referendum seemed to tilt towards Brexit.
At 9.15 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 8.34 points easier at 1,631.64, against yesterday’s 1,639.98.
It opened 0.14 point lower at 1,639.84.
Losers led gainers 208 to 78, while 155 counters were unchanged, 1,284 untraded and 20 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 143.35 million shares worth RM68.99 million.
Losses were seen in key index-linked counters such as Tenaga Nasional, Maybank, CIMB Group and YTL Group.
Dealers said the weaker performance on the local bourse was also in tandem with the weaker overnight performance of Wall Street and the drop in global oil prices with the benchmark Brent down 38 cents to US$50.53 per barrel.
However, he said, there are possibilities for a near-term upside target for the market barometer at the 1,663 level.
“A decisive break above 1,663 will spur the index higher towards the 1,671 to 1,685 levels before heading towards a more formidable 1,700 psychological barrier,” it said.
The FBM Emas Index reduced 51.67 points to 11,409.75, the FBMT 100 Index fall 50.801 points for 11,116.02 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 45.87 points to 11,965.17.
The FBM 70 declined 37.10 points to 12,936.83, but the FBM Ace was 5.18 points higher at 5,209.11.
Sector-wise, the Finance Index was weaker by 58.68 points at 14,072.68, the Plantation Index declined 16.77 points to 7,558.43 and the Industrial Index contracted 11.50 points to 3,049.20.
Among heavyweights, TNB was down 20 sen to RM14.04, Maybank declined six sen to RM8.14, CIMB dropped five sen to RM4.29 and YTL Group lost four sen to RM1.60.
Of the actives, Vivocom was half-a-sen higher at 24.5 sen, Karambunai was flat at 5.5 sen, O&C Resources increased one sen to 46.5 sen and AirAsia inched down six sen to RM2.60. — Bernama
