GEORGE TOWN, May 22 — Penang police detained 10 individuals to assist in the investigation into a brawl on Jalan Penang here on early Saturday morning, which had caused a British tourist to suffer severe stab wounds.

Penang police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan said those detained comprised four foreigners and six locals.

He said the police would cooperate with the Immigration Department to investigate into the status of the foreigners as their passports were not found at the scene.

“Initial investigation revealed that in the 4am incident, the suspects had gotten into a fight after getting drunk,” he told reporters after distributing crime prevention leaflets to tourists at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal here today.

Thaiveegan said the injured British man who was now receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital was in stable condition, while all the suspects had been remanded until May 28. — Bernama
