GEORGE TOWN, Dec 6 — The businessman shot dead by his bodyguard last week had no criminal convictions, said Penang police chief Commissioner Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab.
He said Datuk Ong Teik Kwong, 32, was investigated under the Emergency Ordinance (EO) previously, but was released when the law was repealed.
“He was arrested a few times but if you talk about criminal records, he was never charged in court, he was never convicted of any crime,” he said.
Ong was one of three people killed in a shooting incident last Thursday when his bodyguard allegedly went on a shooting rampage. Five others were also injured in the incident.
The incident triggered rumours of possible triad links.
The police maintain that the bodyguard was mentally unstable.
The bodyguard and driver, who was also at the scene, have been remanded to assist in investigations.
On a separate case involving a man being assaulted by a garden hose, which was shown in an online video, Abdul Ghafar said a 27-year-old man has been arrested.
“We have rescued the victim and he had sought treatment at the hospital,” he said, adding that two others will be called in to give their statements on the case.
