KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 — Police were forced to open fire when a wanted man rammed his car into vehicles along a busy stretch of road while attempting to make his getaway yesterday.
The car came to a halt after a 3km high-speed chase when it crashed into a metal road divider.
The driver, who put up a fight to evade arrest, was taken into custody while his accomplice fled into a secondary jungle off the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway.
Police seized an assortment of house breaking tools and several sharp weapons from the vehicle.
The drama unfolded at about 9.30am when two policemen on motorcycles spotted a Volkswagen Passat with two men in Taman OUG off Jalan Klang Lama.
Suspecting something amiss, they tried to flag down the car but it sped off towards the Kesas Highway, beating red lights along the way.
During the chase, the driver of the car tried to force the cops off their motorcycles. He also collided with several vehicles.
The policemen opened fire several times, hitting the tyre and car, but this failed to stop the driver.
The pursuit continued into the KL-Seremban Expressway where the driver lost control of the car and crashed into a metal road divider.
Brickfields OCPD ACP Shahrul Othman Mansor said investigations showed the car was reported stolen in Bangsar on June 10.
“The 42-year-old suspect in custody is linked to 14 robbery cases reported in Brickfields and Sea Park in Petaling Jaya,” Shahrul Othman said.
Three reports were lodged by motorists whose vehicles were damaged by the suspect.
