KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 — A snatch theft attempt caused a local blogger to fall down the slope while she was hiking alone at Bukit Gasing yesterday morning.

Rebecca Saw said in a Facebook posting today that at 8am yesterday, she was hiking alone at an unfamiliar trail at the Petaling Jaya forest reserve when two men on a motorbike approached her and attempted to steal her iPhone.

“A swift struggle ensued. I screamed out and he tugged at my hand (phone) and top more aggressively.

“My top ripped, I stumbled backwards and rolled down the hill. Luckily it was a shallow slope, not quite a hill. I hit my head, my neck got twisted along the way and my back was scratched,” Saw wrote on her Facebook page.

According to Saw, the two men later fled the scene after their attempt failed.

The blogger, who ended up hiking alone after missing her regular hiking group, said, “We hear so many of these cases of snatch theft and like many others, I’ve thought it won’t happen to me.”

“This has reminded me never to take safety for granted.”

Saw later lodged a police report at the Petaling Jaya police station and said that she suffered no damages, except for minor injuries.

However, she said that she had suffered from a “pounding headache” and a fever following the incident.

The incident involving Saw happened the same morning a fellow hiker was reportedly taken on a terror ride for one hour by a robber in her car.

According to The Star Online, the robber had initially demanded RM150,000 to release her after initially threatening her at gunpoint to get into the car.

When the unnamed woman said she did not have the money, she was dropped at a highway before the robber fled with her car.
