KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — The police will refer the investigation papers on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to the public prosecutor’s office in two to three weeks, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police said today.
In a press conference here, Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim confirmed the police have met with the former prime minister at his office in Yayasan Al-Bukhari building yesterday.
“Three officers have met with former prime minister Dr Mahathir yesterday to record his statement following some of his remarks... made during Bersih 4 and others.
“We will finish our investigation before referring it to the public prosecutor’s office. We will finish it soon, in about two or three weeks,” he said.
Noor Rashid noted that the probe on Dr Mahathir is not related to state-owned firm 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Yesterday, Dr Mahathir said he did not “censor” any of his answers in his 40-minute questioning with three officials from Bukit Aman.
“They asked questions, I said I will not answer. I don’t censor anything.
“It’s up to them. I don’t know,” the 90-year-old replied to reporters after being asked if he had been told he may be arrested.
Police reports were lodged against Dr Mahathir over remarks he made at a press conference during the Bersih 4 rally on August 29 and 30, during which he repeated his demand for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s resignation.
Among others, he claimed that some Umno leaders would not criticise the Najib administration over various controversies linked to the prime minister as they were allegedly corrupt.
