KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Parts of the city centre are expected to experience traffic congestion from today following final preparations for this weekend’s Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix.

It was learnt that sections of five roads that make up the 3.2km street circuit will be reduced to one-way traffic to enable the race organiser to put the finishing touches to the circuit.

Traffic detours will begin from 8pm today, beginning with Jalan Sultan Ismail.

This will be followed in stages in Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Perak, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang.

“The junction from Jalan Sultan Ismail to Jalan P. Ramlee will be closed to traffic from 8pm today for major works that need to be finished before the race starts on Friday morning,” Datuk R. Jaya Raj, director of Pakatan Traffic, said.

Pakatan Traffic is the traffic consultant responsible for the grand prix’s traffic management plan.

“From midnight tonight, there will be road closures along the five roads, though this will be done in stages,” he said.

Jaya Raj advised the public to use public transport if they have to get around the area.

He reminded motorists they could only enter the affected roads during the stipulated access time — between 5am and 6am tomorrow.

Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Perak and Jalan Raja Chulan will be closed from 6am to 6pm from tomorrow to Sunday for the grand prix.

The public may obtain the latest updates on traffic information such as road closures, detours and re-routes from the traffic information hotline numbers 019-374 7774 and 019-374 5333.
