KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 — Malaysian Airlines (MAS) was forced to ground one of its Boeing 737-800 today in the latest incident since the disappearance of Flight MH370, when an airport baggage vehicle crashed into the parked plane.

The flag carrier said in a brief statement that the vehicle had “accidentally” hit the fuselage of its aircraft, causing “some damage”.

“The cause of the accident is being investigated, whilst the driver was temporarily suspended,” said MAS.

“As safety of its passengers is of paramount importance, the aircraft was grounded for repair and another B737-800 aircraft was utilised to operate the next flight which departed on schedule,” it added.

MAS is still reeling from the mysterious disappearance of MH370 while en route to Beijing with 239 passengers and crew nearly three months ago on March 8.

The company shares took a sharp tumble last month, falling by as much as 21 per cent to hit a record low of 15 sen, amid fears of bankruptcy.

It was the carrier’s worst showing on Bursa Malaysia but it rose to 18 sen last week after declaring that it would not be seeking bankruptcy and it will be reviewing its business plan to ensure the company break even next year.
