BEIJING, March 9 — Malaysia Airlines has been staying in close contact with family members of passengers onboard the missing MH370 since yesterday, said Regional senior Vice President of greater china Joshua Law Kok Hwa.
He said MAS in Beijing had provided immediate information and response to the next-of-kin of the passengers.
It was reported that families of passengers were frustrated over MAS’ slow reaction and response over the latest development of the situation regarding the missing aircraft.
Law said MAS has kept them posted on the latest development once they received an official statement from the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
He told Malaysian reporters here that maybe it was due to too many speculation in the media and internet which has let to tension rising among the families.
He said MAS officials had to refute unidentified speculation while keeping them posted of the latest verified information once received from the headquarters.
Law said a Steering Command Centre chaired by him had been activated once he received the first call from the headquarters at 5.20 a.m. yesterday.
When asked about some relatives expressing dissatisfaction over MAS because they did not receive calls from MAS about the incident, Law said: “The team in Beijing comprised only 21 staff, hence there was no way for us to track down all the family members immediately,” he added.
Law said the airline had relocated some 150 family members to three hotels, including Lido hotel where a total of 100 families are housed.
“I feel very sad for this, especially when I have to keep on repeating the sad statement over and over again,” he said, adding he had to hold his emotion while delivering the official statement. — Bernama
