SEPANG, March 9 ― Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek wants the people not to easily believe in rumours being spread in the internet on the missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane.
“Some information come in fast but are not authentic or not verified and cannot be used.
“I urged the people not to be quick in believing what is disseminated in the Internet and so forth. Internet is place for cures but there are also rubbish,” he told reporters after visiting the media centre in Sama-Sama Hotel, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here today.
On the slanders by certain quarters against the country's authorities for allegedly being slow in channelling information on the incident, he said, it was pointless if the information that was disseminated quickly was not authentic.
“It is no use if it (information) is only speculation that will offend those, who really need such information,” he said.
“It is better for us to let the professional parties handle this matter, including sourcing and obtaining detailed information using various methods available so that we can get something that is really authentic,” Ahmad Shabery said.
He said the search-and-rescue efforts for the plane was also not an easy task.
The Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, with 227 pasengers and 12 crew members on board, was reported missing from the radar at 1.30 am yesterday about two hours after it departed from KLIA.
The plane was carrying passengers from 14 countries, including 153 Chinese and 38 Malaysians. ― Bernama
