KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 – A civil servant was among 41 people detained in connection with various offences in simultaneous raids on two budget hotels in Brickfields here today.

The two-hour operation involving 28 officers and men from the immigration department and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department began at 10am.

Thirty-eight foreigners, including 31 women, and aged between 18 and 57, were also picked up in the blitz.

Kuala Lumpur immigration department enforcement division assistant director James Musa Singa said the foreigners were believed to be involved in prostitution and the budget hotels, used as ‘transit’.

He said two caretakers of the said premises were also detained, on suspicion of being in cohorts with the foreigners who were from Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal.

Initial investigations revealed they used expired visit passes or misused their working pass, he added. – Bernama
