TELUK INTAN, June 16 — While on a food hunt with the Mazda CX-3 in Teluk Intan, Perak, we stumbled upon this little-known gem — a ferry service that connects the west bank of the Sungei Perak with the east bank, where the town centre of Teluk Intan is situated.
Now, in addition to the ‘Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan’, (clock tower) there is yet another interesting feature for local tourists.
The ferry service is very cheap, charging only 50 sen for each passenger, and an additional 80 sen if you have a motorcycle.
The entire to and fro ride takes about half an hour, but it is time well spent, all for RM1.

The ferry operates every day of the year, and is used mostly by locals. The boatman, Ah Lam, is a quiet man, very shy, and mostly expressionless except for an occasional smile, but he is good-natured.
Situated on the left side of Jalan Maharaja Lela at the left edge of the town as you enter Teluk Intan, it is very easy to find. If you are not sure, just ask any local, and they will be able to point you in the right direction. It is just a stone’s throw from the Teluk Intan clock tower.
The ferry has been running for two generations passing from the original owner to his son. The ride is short, and lasts about five minutes each way, but is an interesting enough experience, and extremely affordable too.
The river scenery is quite beautiful, and you may see some iguanas swimming in the water. Some huge sand dredges also ply the area, and they are quite a sight to see too.
