PALEMBANG, Sept 27 — The Malaysian badminton squad is banking on Lim Chiew Sien to win gold in the Islamic Solidarity Games women’s singles final tomorrow at the GOR Dempo Jakabaring courts here.

National women’s singles coach Woon Sze Mei said Lim, 19, had put up an excellent performance, having even beaten Ozge Bayrak 21-19, 21-19 in the final of the women’s team event against Turkey yesterday.

The Malaysians beat Turkey 5-0 to win the team event.

In the men’s team event, Malaysia also beat Turkey, 4-1, to win gold.

Woon sees a 50-50 chance of Lim winning the individual singles gold. “Lim has a chance to take the gold. I hope she plays well tomorrow. She has trained hard,” Woon told Bernama today.

Lim said she would do her best. “Tomorrow’s game is important for me. I hope to put up a good performance and contribute one more medal,” she said. — Bernama
