KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 — Local actress Nur Fazura sparked controversy among her Muslim Instagram followers after she uploaded a picture of herself with a dog yesterday evening, Astro Awani reported.

The picture of her with a dog nicknamed ‘Kuning’ has received more than 10,000 ‘likes’ and 700 comments from followers.

Nur Fazura captioned the picture “Our superhero 'Kuning' who love his friends and everyone he met. An example to many humans. Love more, hate less : ) #WeLoveKuning #FurryFriendsFarm”.

Some Internet users quickly criticised the 31-year-old "Gol & Gincu" actress, describing her action as unacceptable by the community as it is considered a taboo for Muslims to touch dogs.

However, many fans came to her defence, saying that it was better than touching another man with whom she had no family ties. Other commenters said that it could be a way to raise awareness about animal welfare because dogs are not considered “haram” (forbidden) but only “unclean'” when touched.
