KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session lower today, weighed down by selling activities in selected heavyweights, led by MISC and CIMB.
The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shed 11.19 points or 0.69 per cent to 1,616.77, after fluctuating between 1,616.32 and 1,629.47 throughout the morning session.
It opened 0.93 of-a-point higher at 1,628.89.
Of the heavyweights, MISC lost 27 sen to RM7.23, CIMB trimmed 11 sen to RM4.23, Maybank declined eight sen to RM8.05, Petronas Chemicals slid nine sen to RM6.35 and Genting fell 13 sen to RM8.04.
For the actives, O&C Resources edged up half-a-sen to 49 sen, Bumi Armada was down two sen to 70 sen, Comintel Corp slipped 3.5 sen to 90.5 sen, AirAsia was five sen lower at RM2.60 and SapuraKencana declined seven sen to RM1.45.
Kenanga Research said downside pressure on the benchmark index still persisted, underpinned by the weak ringgit, poor crude oil prices and uncertain global economy.
“With investors’ sentiment continuing to be plagued by the persistent concerns, the benchmark index is still likely to trade with a downside-bias, while retesting the sustainability of the 1,620 support level,” it said in a note today.
On a broader market, losers trounced gainers 491 to 155, while 332 counters remained unchanged, 738 untraded and 18 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 754.89 million shares worth RM646.91 million.
The FBM Emas Index slipped 75.67 points to 11,320.36, the FBMT 100 Index gave up 74.27 points to 11,020.0 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index eased 64.5 points to 11,895.40.
The FBM 70 eased 79.41 points to 12,843.43 and the FBM Ace was 85.88 points lower at 5,287.12.
The Finance Index was down 97.76 points to 13,974.6, the Plantation Index fell 32.04 points to 7,536.6 and the Industrial Index decreased 27.23 points to 3,032.47. — Bernama
