KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Bursa Malaysia opened mixed today on selective trading as market sentiment remained cautious.
At 9.19 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 1.21 points lower at 1,659.41 from Tuesday's close of 1,660.62.
The index opened 2.04 points lower at 1,658.58.
Market breadth, was however, better with 167 gainers and 128 losers, while 195 counters were unchanged, 1,220 untraded and 31 others suspended.
Turnover stood at 230.15 million shares worth RM103.55 million.
"Market sentiment remains cautious ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on June 14-15.
"Traders are also wary of the looming exit of Britain from the European Union, as well as higher expectations of lower market consensus for the FBM KLCI year-end target. due to lacklustre local earnings result," said Hong Leong Investment Bank in a research note.
Among heavyweights, Maybank, Petronas Chemicals and IHH Healthcare each were flat at RM8.39, RM19.12 and RM6.50 respectively, while TNB slipped two sen to RM13.98.
Of actives, Sumatec was flat at 11 sen, Bumi Armada and KNM each gained one sen to 72 sen and 47 sen respectively, while M3 Technology rose half-a-sen to 24.5 sen.
The FBM Emas Index slid 5.51 points to 11,609.46, the FBMT 100 Index declined 6.33 points to 11,304.17 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index shed 3.10 points to 12,153.55.
The FBM 70 eased 0.51 of-a-point to 13,151.67 and the FBM Ace dipped 11.99 points to 5,476.44.
On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index declined 5.00 points to 3,121.27 and the Finance Index trimmed 2.18 points to 14,374.99 as the Plantation Index eased 0.08 of-a-point to 7,641.50. — Bernama
